Research in action at ICube

Research is about understanding, testing, and explaining the world around us. It means asking questions, examining hypotheses, exploring new ideas, and generating reliable knowledge that benefits society. It is not only about final results. It relies on methods, experimentation, setbacks, and long-term teamwork.

At ICube, research develops at the intersection of the digital and physical worlds. Teams work with models, algorithms, data, experimental setups and more to analyze complex phenomena, design new tools, and improve existing systems. Their work spans everything from fundamental scientific insight to real-world applications, with strong links to healthcare, industry, the environment and sustainable development.

Research only has real impact when it is shared. At ICube, this takes the form of hands-on science outreach and public engagement. The lab participates in public events, especially for young people, including major science festivals and research discovery programs. It hosts interns from middle school through higher education, organizes lab tours, seminars, and conferences, and strives to enters candidates each year in the My Thesis in 180 Seconds competition.

ICube also leads participatory science initiatives such as the Senseau project, which involve citizens directly in the creation of knowledge. These efforts show how research happens in practice and help make science accessible, engaging, and closely connected to society.
