The ICube laboratory is a key place where researchers are both trained and learn through hands-on research. Each year, we welcome doctoral students, postdoctoral researchers, and French and international internship students from universities and engineering schools.
University and engineering school programs
The laboratory unites scientists specializing in computer science, engineering sciences, and biophysics. They are strongly invested in university education across general and technological programs, and engineering schools. In this way, they contribute to many degree programs, actively supporting student learning through teaching, supervising projects, and overseeing internships and theses.
ICube scientists are affiliated with several university departments, and contribute to teaching in the following departments:
Laboratory scientists also teach at three University Institutes of Technology (IUT), in professionally-oriented bachelor’s programs:
ICube serves as the main research laboratory for four engineering schools, with its members actively involved in teaching and research:

Research-based education
The ICube laboratory takes part in numerous academic programs at the undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels.
Within these programs and through internships at the laboratory, students are introduced to research by carrying out scientific projects alongside ICube’s researchers.
ICube plays an active role in several master’s programs, with its researchers and academic staff involved in specialized courses, supervising research projects, and by welcoming students for internships within the laboratory.
- Master's Degree in Computer Science
Specialization: Imaging and 3D (I3D), Data Science and Complex Systems (SDSC), Network, Internet, and Systems Science and Engineering (SIRIS), Software Science and Engineering (SIL), and Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (UFAZ — hosted in Azerbaijan). - Master of Imaging, Robotics and Biomedical Engineering (IRIV)
Specialization:Automation and Robotics (AR), Image and Data (ID), Imaging, Medical and Surgical Robotics (IRMC), HealtchTech, Photonics for Nanosciences and Life Sciences (MPHOT), Topography and Photogrammetry (Topo) - Master in Applied Physics and Physical Engineering (PAIP)
Specialization: Mechanical Modelling for Energy and the Environment, Mecatronics, Energy and Smart Systems (MESI), Advanced Numerical Modelling (MNA) - Master in Industrial Engineering (GI)
Specialization: Design and ergonomics (GICE), Industrial Production (GIPI)
Doctoral training
ICube is the host laboratory for two doctoral schools
More than 180 doctoral students from 57 different nationalities conduct their research at ICube.
Each year, over 50 doctoral candidates from top French and international universities join the laboratory.
At the regional level, ICube plays a key role in doctoral training, offering funding for PhD projects through doctoral contracts, CIFRE contracts in partnership with industries, and national and European projects.
Doctoral students are enrolled in one of two schools, which guide them from admission all the way through to the defense of their theses.
- Doctoral school of Mathematics, Information Sciences, and Engineering (MSII) - ED 269
Offers a structured program covering mathematics, computer science, electronics and photonics, signal and image processing, automation, robotics, remote sensing, as well as mechanics and civil engineering. - Doctoral school of Life and Health Sciences - ED 414
Covers four main areas: ethics, life and health sciences, medical disciplines, and pharmaceutical sciences

Continuing education
Continuing education plays a key role in lifelong learning, helping people keep up with the rapid evolution of technologies.
Each year, many ICube researchers take part in continuous education activities by organizing and leading specialized training courses in their respective areas of expertise.
Training for the Socio-Economic Sector
The laboratory offers training programs designed for companies and the broader socio-economic sector.
These initiatives promote the transfer of knowledge from research to society and address the concrete needs of economic and institutional partners.
They are organized with the support of CNRS Formation Entreprises (CNRS Training for Companies) and the Continuous Education Service (SFC) of the University of Strasbourg.
Training sessions are led by ICube scientists — researchers, professors, and engineers — , who share their advanced expertise and technical know-how developed within the laboratory’s technology platforms.
By combining scientific excellence with technological expertise, ICube offers companies unique training programs that are advanced, practical and directly applicable to their projects.
The Inetlab platform offers training for scientists and industry partners in wireless networks and the Internet of Things (IoT). These courses are delivered as part of specialized schools or workshops. Inetlab also offers equivalent courses for Master’s students as part of their academic training.
The SERTIT platform provides customized training in geomatics and remote sensing. Courses can take place either at SERTIT’s facilities or on-site within partner organizations. Our scientists adapt the content to meet specific operational needs.
A catalog is available on the platform’s webpage, where all relevant information and contact details can be found.
Training for Higher Education and Research Staff
The laboratory organizes training courses for higher education and research staff. These courses are run in collaboration with the CNRS and the University of Strasbourg.
They are supported by the university’s Continuing Education Office (BFC) and the CNRS regional training service.
ICube members also participate in National Training Actions and Thematic Schools funded by the CNRS.
