Title: Clinical Insights in Machine Learning for Intraoperative Video

Abstract: As machine learning becomes increasingly popular as a methodology with which to tackle surgical research questions, clinical insights into decision making and training can provide valuable lessons on applicability and ultimate clinical utility of ML in surgical practice. This talk will cover lessons learned at the Massachusetts General Hospital as research efforts surrounding effective use of surgical video have grown.

Bio: Daniel Hashimoto is the Associate Director of Research of the Surgical Artificial Intelligence and Innovation Laboratory and senior surgical resident at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. He obtained his B.A. in Biology with a specialization in Neuroscience from Boston University. He earned his MD from the University of Pennsylvania where he also obtained an M.S. in Translational Research with a focus on virtual reality and surgical education for which the majority of his research was conducted at Imperial College London. He is a member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Artificial Intelligence Task Force and co-chair of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) AI Task Force. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC).
