The IMAGINE-STIM INTERREG project team is pleased to invite you to the 6th Video Forum:
- Wednesday, 14 October 2026, from 12:30 to 13:30 (CEST)
Guest speaker: Dr Matthias Dümpelmann
Electroencephalogram (EEG):
How is brain activity recorded and analysed?
Matthias Dümpelmann is Chief Engineer at the Epilepsy Center of the University Hospital of Freiburg.
This presentation, open to everyone, will introduce you to electroencephalography, from the first recording made by Hans Berger in 1924 to the methods used today.
How can we observe brain activity from the surface of the skull? What do the electrical signals recorded by an EEG reveal? And how is artificial intelligence transforming the way these signals are analysed?
We will look at how electrodes capture the activity of large groups of neurons, how specialists attempt to identify the source of abnormal signals, particularly those associated with epilepsy, and why pinpointing their origin remains a complex task.
Finally, we will explore the growing role of artificial intelligence in detecting abnormalities, recognising epileptic seizures and interpreting EEG recordings.
An introduction to how EEG works, its capabilities and its limitations, designed for a general audience.
The videoconference will take place via VISIO. The VISIO link will be sent to registered participants by email on the morning of 14 October.
The link will also be available on the project website.
The IMAGINE-STIM project is part of the Science Offensive of the Trinational Metropolitan Region of the Upper Rhine.
